The simple and safe way to test the pressure and flow, and consequently the volume flow of fire hose reels

Based on DIN 14462:2023-07, this testing device has been designed to determine flow and static pressure and the resulting volume flow. Each essential component (orifice plate, manometer) and the entire WHX testing device are provided with unique serial numbers. Calibrated at our in-house test stand with traceable standards according to EN 17025, each component, as well as the entire device, is calibrated and documented in a corresponding test protocol. The consistent implementation of the requirements for a measuring system according to DIN 14462:2023-07, EN671, and TRVB 128 S ensures that measurement uncertainties for volume flow determination are minimized and reproducibility is ensured.

Application Area

Fire hose reels are fixed water withdrawal points in buildings, essential for preventive fire protection. A form-stable hose lines, serve quickly and efficiently extinguish fires in case of an emergency.

Requirements: DIN 14462:2023-07, TRVB 128 S and more

To ensure firefighting water facilities are always ready for use, they need to be checked and maintained at regular annual intervals. This process must be carried out by qualified personnel according to the regulations of the Operational Safety Ordinance and the Technical Rules for Operational Safety. Detailed information on planning, installation, operation, and maintenance can be found in the standards DIN 14462 and DIN EN 671-3.

Versatile Orifice Plate Selection for Standard Compliance

By choosing the orifice plate set, depending on the need, a testing device can measure flow and static pressure, and consequently the volume flow of fire hose reels according to both standards (DIN 14462 and TRVB 128 S).

Orifice plates according to DIN 14462

Flow Rate k-Factor Minimum Flow Pressure to be Demonstrated
24 lpm 17 0,20 MPa (2,0 bar)
48 lpm 34 0,20 MPa (2,0 bar)
100 lpm 58 0,30 MPa (3,0 bar)

600 lpm 0,30 MPa (3,0 bar)
600 lpm 0,40 MPa (4,0 bar)
600 lpm 0,50MPa (5,0 bar)
600 lpm 0,55 MPa (5,5 bar)
800 lpm 0,15 MPa (1,5 bar)

Recalibration for measurement accuracy and safety

For precise, safe, and reproducible measurement, the devices should be recalibrated at the factory at intervals of 24 … 36 months. Key points for determining the calibration interval include:

  • Stress on the measuring and testing equipment
  • Frequency of use
  • Environmental conditions
  • Stability of past calibrations
  • Company-specific requirements of the quality assurance system

These points are to be determined and monitored by the user within the recommended timeframe of 24 ... 36 months.

For measuring instruments used for regular inspection, occupational safety verification, quality assurance of products and services, as well as under extreme environmental conditions, we recommend calibration after 12 months.

FAQ – WHX HOSE REEL TESTING DEVICE

What is needed for recalibration of the testing devices?

For recalibration of the testing devices, please send the complete system consisting of digital manometer, orifice plate(s), union nut, ball valve, measuring device body, and hose connection – preferably in the associated transport case.

What documents will I receive after recalibration?

The scope of delivery for the recalibrated WHX testing device includes the testing device sent to us, a corresponding calibration seal on the measuring device body with the calibration date (month/year), and the detailed calibration certificate.

How long do I typically have to wait for a device to be recalibrated?

Our own standards for good service entail returning the sent testing devices within about 5 ... 7 working days. If there are any unexpected deviations and/or repairs, we communicate these promptly and directly.

Can I connect the WHX testing device to a mobile water collection container ("testing barrel / IBC")?

Yes, for this purpose, we have straight connection pieces with a 45° and 90° bend for a Storz C connection in our delivery program.

Can I also connect the testing device to a flush box (pressure destroyer)?

Yes, for this purpose, we recommend our "pressure-neutral" flush box HTLDV080 from our delivery program.
