Applications:

The RE 250-series float-type flow meters with a standard length of 250 mm (9.84 inch) is suitable for measuring a range of liquids, gases and vapours in closed pipelines thanks to its full-metal design. The robust construction permits use under tough conditions (aggressive media, pressure up to 400 bar, temp. -40 °C to +350 °C). Various types of flanges, claddings and floats fulfil the conditions of the pharmaceutical and chemical industry.

The RE 250 float-type flow meter is used in the following industries:

  • Plant and mechanical engineering
  • Chemicals
  • Building services equipment
  • Food
  • Metal extraction, production and processing
  • Oil and gas
  • Water and wastewater

Advantages of the RE 250 mechanical flow meter:

  • Reliability (long-term stability, service life)
  • Can be used for liquid, gas, vapour
  • Measured media temperatures: -40 °C ... +350 °C (optional -80 °C)
  • Available for process pressure up to 400 bar
  • Measurement range limit for liquids: 0,5 l/h to 100.000 l/h (water: +20 °C)
  • Measurement range limit for gas: 0,015 m³/h to 3.000 m³/h (air: +20 °C, 1,013 bar)
  • Precision: 1.6% per VDI/VDE 3513-2 (qG = 50%) - Liquids
  • Silicon-free version available
  • Simple device structure, easy to install and maintain
  • No auxiliary energy for local display
  • Simple interpretation of the measurements
  • High repeat accuracy of the measurements
  • Simple commissioning
  • Cost-effective and simple measurement principle without auxiliary energy
  • No calming section
  • Manufacturer’s application expertise
  • Short lead times

Special features of the RE 250 full-metal flow meter:

  • Robust full-metal fitting with impact-resistant housing cap
  • Can also be used for aggressive and combustible measured media
  • Suitable for use at high pressure and high temperatures
  • Can be equipped with optional heating and cooling jackets
  • Dirt-resistant float guide
  • Float cushioning, for pulsing flows or low operating pressures (recommended esp. for gas measurements)
  • Optionally available with 4 … 20 mA with HART® protocol interface

Measuring tube connections:

  • DIN ISO 228: G ¼ ... G 3
  • ANSI B.1.20.1: NPT ¼“ ... NPT 3“
  • DIN EN 1092-1: DN 15 ... DN 150
  • ANSI B 16.5: ½“ ... 6“

How the RE 250 flow meter works:

The position of the float is transferred contactlessly to the display unit via a magnet system and shown there directly on the scale. No external auxiliary energy is required for this.

FAQ - Full-metal float-type flow meter RE 250

Do I need an inlet and outlet?

Not required

Can I use a double scale?

Yes, we can create two scales on one display unit.

When do I need a float damping?

We usually recommend a float damping in case of gas measurements and vibrations in the pipe.

Additionally a float damping should be used in following scenarios to obtain a better measurement result:

  • Applications where bubbles in the medium cannot be avoided
  • Predominantly percussive pressure within the pipe due to e.g. fast limitation or shutdown
  • Turbulences, vibrations etc which might cause vibrations of the device
  • Fast pressurisation within the pipe

Which parameters are mandatory to mention when placing an order?

When placing an order, it is essential to specify the medium, the density and viscosity at operating temperature and pressure. For gases, the exact Reference point of pressure (gauge pressure or absolute pressure) additionally required.

Which cleaning agent is required?

Although the devices are maintenance-free, it is recommended to regularly check the flow meter for signs of corrosion, mechanical wear and damage. We recommend routine checks at least once a year.

How is the unit cleaned?

For a detailed inspection and cleaning, the device must be removed from the pipeline. Contamination can lead to measurement errors under certain circumstances.
